Tell us about the new Alerts & Notification feature.

The Alerts & Notification feature allows the CompassReports user to create their own alerts based on their specific reporting needs.  The user can be notified on any event they define (see the examples below).  The notification can be sent as an e-mail, a text message, or a popup display on the user’s computer screen.

Examples:

  • Speeding violations
  • Geofence alerts
  • Idling violations
  • and many more

How does it help the fleet manager?
The alerts help the fleet manager gain more control of the fleet. It allows the fleet manager to define violations and be notified in real-time when they occur.

Give us a little background information on CompassReports.
Adding CompassReports to our product line takes our mobile resource management solutions to a new level.

How so?
Most vehicle location and mobile asset tracking solutions can tell you the location and status of vehicles in real time on a digital map. But fleet managers have a pretty challenging job. They need more information - much more - to be effective.

What type of information?

They want to answers questions such as:

  • How did my fleet do today?
  • Where were the starts and stops?
  • Where and when did my vehicles end the day?

Fleet management is more than just locating a mobile asset - it is about people and performance. And that is where CompassReports really adds value. CompassReports gives the fleet manager – and the fleet management group - the tools they need to measure, track and improve performance.

How does CompassReports allow the fleet manager to measure, track, and improve performance?

Let me give a few examples:

A fleet manager for a city’s Public Works Department sends out his snowplows for a snow event. Once those plows leave the garage, the fleet manager typically can map where they are at any point in time. That’s one data point. CompassReports explodes the amount of information available to the fleet manager. He will have real time access to information such as:

  • How many miles have been driven?
  • Are the blades up or down?
  • What speeds are the plows driving?
  • Are any of the plows deadheading?
  • How much sand has been dropped?
  • How much liquid has been dropped?

This information allows the fleet manager to make fact-based decisions about his people and their performance.

You mentioned Public Works. Many cities have “Green” initiatives for their fleets. Can CompassReports help in this area?
Absolutely. CompassReports can not only provide information to ensure the vehicles are efficiently deployed, but it can also document the CO₂ emissions for the day and how many pounds were used by the vehicle. This detail is critical for any “Green” initiative.

CompassReports users have said it helps with customer service. How?

One of the driving goals behind the design and development of CompassReports was helping fleet managers improve customer service. In the public arena, customers are the taxpayers. In today’s fiscal environment, taxpayers want to make sure they receive value for every tax dollar they pay. This puts increasing burdens on local governments, as they must balance the high expectations of the taxpayer with extreme budget pressures. There is less money to go around.

CompassReports provides the critical data to ensure vehicles are used effectively and efficiently. It also ensures there is accountability for each vehicle. For example, suppose a consumer calls with a complaint about trash pick up. The truck never showed up. CompassReports supplies the detail to show exactly where and when the trash truck was on the specific block in question. So if the consumer put their pails at the curb at 9:30, but the truck came by at 9:10, there is an audit trail.

Accountability will become increasingly important as consumers become more demanding and tax dollars more scarce. All CompassReports users have cited this as one of the biggest benefits of the solution.

What are some of the other benefits?

Our users tell us that the flexibility to slice and dice data is a big benefit. This goes way beyond just entering data ranges. CompassReports allows users to compare different periods, drill into specific events, and isolate a truck to determine if an issue is habitual…there’s so much versatility in analyzing data.
In addition, CompassReports allows users to export data into *.CSV and *. XLS file formats.
